Transcribing Cultural Heritage and Recordings from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival: Collections Deep Dive with the Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections
Join the Transcription Center team for another installment of our monthly series "Collections Deep Dive!" Hear from Smithsonian experts, learn more about Transcription Center projects and historic collections, and discover tips and tricks for transcribing and reviewing.

This month, we're chatting about the archival records of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival with Digital Projects Archivist Cecilia Peterson and Audiovisual Archivist Dave Walker from the Smithsonian's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage's Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections, and Graduate Fellow Nora Jiménez from the Smithsonian Latino Center's Latino Museum Studies Program. Since 2019, volunpeers have transcribed hundreds of pages and over 85 hours of audio recordings from Smithsonian Folklife Festival events documenting diverse cultures, peoples, and languages between 1980 and 2016. Join us as we explore the history of the Folklife Festival and the importance of preserving, digitizing, and transcribing related archival collections.

This webinar will be uploaded and captioned on our YouTube channel following the event. Have questions, comments, or discoveries to share before or after the webinar? Reach out on Twitter @transcribeSI or email our team directly at transcribe@si.edu
