Native Knowledge 360˚ Teacher Workshop Series Indigenous Women: Artists and Activists
During this online 3-part teacher workshop series, teachers will be introduced to the intersection of Indigenous activism and artists elevating their message through art and prose in children’s literature and from art in the Museum’s collection that centers on Indigenous Women activists.

In session 3, on Thursday, March 3, 2022, teachers will meet NMAI’s assistant curator of contemporary art, Rebecca Head Trautmann and take a deeper dive into contemporary artworks in the museum’s collection. In this session, teachers will learn how to connect inquiry techniques to their classroom practice and as entry points into NMAI’s Native Knowledge 360˚ classroom materials. Teachers will explore the NMAI’s collections as tools to deepen their knowledge of Indigenous women’s roles and contributions and learn how to introduce students to difficult historical topics, including forced removal. Recommended for teachers Grades 4 and Up.

Please consider registering for all three sessions.

This project received support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative.
